More Fake News


President Trump is getting rather tetchy and defensive over his ban on refugees entering America from certain Muslim majority countries.

During the election campaign Trump couldn't have been clearer he demanded a "total and complete shut-down of Muslims entering the United States" as is clear from the YouTube clip shown above.

But now Team Trump is felling the heat and issued the following statement which tries to claim that their policy is similar to one adopted previously by Barack Obama:

“My policy is similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from Iraq for six months. The seven countries named in the Executive Order are the same countries previously identified by the Obama administration as sources of terror. To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting.” (Jan 29, 2017)

Now this is a false and misleading statement because while the list of countries was previously used by the Obama administration, the policy was not an outright ban and only required people entering America from these countries to have a full visa.

In plain language this more fake news and weasel words from Donald Trump.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
